Sleeping Giant
Speaker: Samer Massad
Length: 4 Parts
Historically speaking, the church hasn’t always gotten it right. Even today, it can seem like the church has a little bit of a reputation problem. But, when the church does get it right, it’s powerful, and the world is a better place because of it.
When Jesus followers live out what Jesus taught, good things happen. In fact, right now our opportunity and potential for good is bigger than it’s ever been! In this four-part study, we’ll take an honest look at where the church has been and dream together about what could happen if we wake up to what God wants to do through us.
Part 1: Wake Up
The church that Jesus initiated was not a physical building. It was a movement of people referred to as “the body of Christ.” When the body of Christ is awake, the potential for good is off the charts. But when the body sleeps, the world misses out on all that untapped potential. The question for us to answer? Is the body of Christ asleep or awake?
Part 2: Following and Flourishing
The church’s potential for good is off the charts because the way of Jesus is that good. In the following, there is flourishing. When Christians follow Jesus, communities, relationships, families, and even nations flourish. It’s time to wake up and unleash our potential for good.
Part 3: Worth Your Salt
The goodness and the love of God that we talk about should be what our communities experience through our lives and our churches. Jesus used two metaphors to help his followers understand that they shouldn’t be people who just talk about God’s goodness; they should actually embody it for the benefit of others.
Part 4: Parathesia
The church is a body, and just like with a physical body, all the parts need to be present, connected, and engaged to fulfill its potential to do good. We are all uniquely gifted to play a part in the story of God. And every part is indispensable.
