Make Room
Speaker: Samer Massad
Length: 4 Parts
Spiritual disciplines are any habit or practice designed to help us make room to experience more of God in our everyday lives. Seems simple enough, and yet for many of us, pursuing spiritual disciplines results in fatigue, frustration, and feeling like a failure. The desire to experience more of God in our lives seems reserved only for the extra-spiritual people.
But no matter who you are or how long you’ve followed Jesus, God intends for you to experience him, his grace, and his power in ever increasing measure. And spiritual disciplines provide a means through which this can happen. In this study, we’ll unpack what it looks like to make room to experience more of God’s grace and transforming power in our lives.
Part 1: Means to an End
Spiritual habits are not the end but a means to an end. To what end, you might wonder. Jesus makes it abundantly clear. In this session, we’ll learn what spiritual disciplines are, what they’re not, and what they’re designed to do in our lives.
Part 2: Begin with the End in Mind
What are the ultimate ends of spiritual disciplines? Where are they intended to take us? In this session, we’ll look at one of Jesus’s most famous moments to help us discover the answer to these two important questions.
Part 3: Practices of Engagement
Spiritual disciplines require practice. Practicing well is just as important as practicing, period. In this session, we’ll learn how the disciplines of engagement help us make room to experience more of God’s power in our lives.
Part 4: Practices of Abstinence
