False Views of God

Speaker: Reece Mashaw and Sherita Harkness
Length: 3 Parts

It can be easy to pick up thoughts and ideas about God that might not actually be true. These false views can lead to unmet expectations or cause us to dismiss faith entirely. A false view keeps us from seeing God as he really is and experiencing the type of relationship he desires to have with us. The first step in gaining clarity is to examine the things we tell ourselves about God.

Part 1: “Bodyguard God and On-Demand God”

God certainly brings good things to our lives. But when the focus of our relationship with God is on us, we can portray him as simply someone who protects us or gives us what we want.

Part 2: “Check-Your-Brain-At-The-Door God and All-the-Feels God”

Relationships are driven by a combination of feelings and logic, and there are times when one outweighs the other. Yet in your relationship with God, if there is an imbalance or one of those elements is missing, it can impact your view of God altogether.

Part 3: “Guilt God and Buddy God”

God is full of both truth and grace, but it’s easy to view him as someone who focuses on one more than the other.
